What stays in your browser

Everything that makes the generator "yours" lives in your browser's local storage, not on any account:

• Your theme choice (light or dark)
• Display preferences, like whether swatches show RGB or HSL
• Whether you've seen the onboarding tour
• A random library key — not tied to your name or email — used to sync your saved palettes across the sites and devices where you paste it in

Uninstalling or clearing site data removes all of it. Nothing here is a cookie; Palette Town doesn't set any.

What reaches our server

Saving a palette to your library sends its name and colors to our database, tagged with your anonymous library key so we can hand it back to you later. It isn't linked to your identity — anyone who has that key can read that library, which is why it isn't sent anywhere except when you explicitly export or transfer it. Palettes left unclaimed (no library key at all) are deleted after 90 days.

Image color extraction never touches our server — the image is decoded and analyzed entirely in your browser tab and is never uploaded anywhere.

Usage analytics

We log which generator features get used — generate, export, save, and similar actions — against a second, separate random session id, also stored only in your browser. It's kept apart from your library key on purpose, so a record of which buttons you pressed can never be connected to which palettes you saved. This is what lets us tell whether people actually use a feature before we invest more in it.

Standard server logs

Like almost every website, our server records basic request data for security and traffic analysis: IP address, approximate country, the page requested, referrer, user agent, and timestamp. This is used to keep the service running (blocking abuse, rate-limiting, catching bugs) and to see aggregate traffic trends. It is not cross-referenced with your library key or usage analytics, and we don't sell or share it.

Third parties

The site is served through Cloudflare (network/CDN) and loads typeface files from Google Fonts. Both can see a request's IP address as a normal consequence of serving that request, under their own privacy policies. Palette Town doesn't run any advertising or tracking-pixel scripts, and the free tier has never required payment, so no payment processor is involved. If you use the embeddable swatch strip on another site, that page's own privacy policy governs what it collects — Palette Town only serves the strip itself.
